- frequent headaches
- frequent rubbing of eyes or tearing
- sitting close to the TV ( and indicating an inability to see if made to sit further away)
- eye pain
- disinterest in near work such as coloring or reading
- eye redness or crusting of eyelids or lashes
- difficulty copying notes from the blackboard

Infant SEE is a public health program designed to ensure that eye and vision care become an integral part of infant wellness care. Both doctors at Firelands Eyecare Center are Infant SEE volunteers. Infants under one year of age receive a comprehensive vision assessment at no charge. During the assessment, parents will hold the baby on their laps as visual acuity, refractive status (i.e. nearsighted, farsighted and astigmatism), eye movements, and overall eye health are evaluated. It has been found that the best age to test the infant is between nine and twelve months of age. For further information on this program sponsored by Johnson and Johnson and the American Optometric Association, go to www.infantsee.org.

As the year draws to a close, we encourage you to utilize your insurance benefits before they are lost. Flexible spending account balances can be used for vision care as well as glasses, prescription sunglasses, computer glasses, or contact lenses.

Patients are always looking for holiday gifts which bring joy while offering good value. Eyewear is available in a variety of different styles and colors and is worn nearly everyday. What better value can you find?

Gift certificates are available for vision care and eyewear. Do you know someone in your family that wants a second pair of glasses or an older family member who has not had a pair in years? Medicare does not cover glasses so those covered patients are always grateful for a new pair.

Sunglasses are a hot item on holiday lists this year. Protect your long term eye health while also making a fashion statement. We have a wide selection of designer sunglasses. Remember, with each pair of prescription glasses you purchase, you get a $50.00 off certificate for sunglasses. Get your own glasses and pick up a gift for someone else at a $50.00 savings.

Know someone who wants to wear contacts? A gift certificate for a contact lens fitting and contacts will bring a smile to your young teenager.

Stuff the stocking with extra contacts. Regular replacements enhance comfort and keep the eyes healthy. Colored contacts are great for special occasions.

Hoping all of our patients enjoy a safe and happy holiday season.
